Agni Theertham

Sri Rama killed Ravana, the king of Lanka and rescued Sita. To show the greatness of Sita’s chastity to this world, Sri Rama ordered her to get in to the Gigantic Fire that was lit up in Gandamadanaparvatham (Rameshwaram). Inspite of entering in to the fire, she wasn’t hurt and even her flowers didn’t burn in that fire. While testing the Chastity of Goddesses Sita, the chastity will of her, made Agni deva’s body to feel exhausted and finally he united Sita with Lord Rama.

Agni deva requested Rama to show him the way to get rid of the sin which is caused by testing the Chastity of Goddesses Sita.

So, Sri Rama asked Agni Deva to drench in to the Holistic Sea( Rameshwaram) to eliminate his Sin.

As per Rama’s Command, Agni Deva took bath in Rameshwaram and thereby eliminated his Dosha. Sri Rama coined the theertha’s name as AGNI THEERTHA and gave boon to all those who take bath in this theertha to have pure chastity and be blessed with all lakshanas in this world.
