Brahma Theertham

Once upon a time, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu fought so fiercely. They forgot their responsibility of creation and protection of the entire world. The illuminating energy of Surya and Chandra went down. The world of Rishis and Devas was devastated.

Knowing this, Parameshwaran planned to disguise himself as a fire Mountain in between them. To suppress their arrogance, he stated that whoever witnesses the mountain’s base and the peak would be considered greater than the other.

Mahavishnu took the avatar of pig and moved to witness the mountain’s base. Brahma transformed himself into Swan and started flying to see the mountain’s peak.

Vishnu got tired without seeing the base of the mountain. In the meantime Bramha was also not able to see the peak. At that time, Brahma noticed the fragrant screw pine flower fell from Lord Parameshwaran’s peak. He lied to Vishnu that he witnessed the mountain’s peak and took the flower from it.

By hearing all the cooked-up stories from Brahma, Lord Parameswaran got angry and cursed him that there should not be any temple built for Brahma to worship on this earth. And finally, he hugged Vishnu and praised him as the greatest god.

Brahma realized his mistake and asked his heartfelt apologies by touching the feet of the Lord. He requested the Lord to relieve him from this curse.

Parameshwaran advised Brahma to visit Rameshwaram to pray for all the living beings in this world by performing rituals. He conveyed to Brahma, by doing the same people will worship him and perform pooja even without temple in his name.
