Brahmahathi Vimochana Theertha

Sri Rama, son of King Dasharadh went to Sri Lanka to rescue Sita Devi from his enemy Ravana. Rama defeated Ravana’s plot and schemes and killed him to save Sita. After killing Ravana, Rama was affected by Brahmahathi Dosha.

So, Agathiya Rishi suggested Lord Rama for performing Shiva Linga pooja in Gandamadana parvadham ( Rameshwaram) to relieve from Brahmahathi dosha. When Rama performs pooja, Lord shiva appeared with his four hands and three eyes (trinethra ) and created this holy theertha. He asked Lord Rama to take a ritual bath in this holy theertha to get rid of Brahmahathi dosha.

Once he performed a ritual bath in this theertha, the aggressive Brahma Hathi dosha got eliminated in a fraction of a second.

Lord Shiva coined this theertha name as Brahmahathi Vimochana Theertha as it eliminated the Brahmahathi dosha of Rama and cured him.
