The Glory of Sri Ganesh Chaturthi

History of Umadevi

Umadevi, an incarnation of Parvati and also the daughter of Himavaan, wished to marry Lord Shiva and she informed her father Himavaan to show her the way to marry him.

Himavaan advised her to worship Lord Ganesha – the trio of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva on the day of Avani month Suklabhaksha Chaturthi. By following all the procedures and observing the fast on that auspicious day, one can get all the siddhis and happiness in this world and can attain moksha.

Himavan explained the procedures for the puja and blessed Umadevi so that she could get the man she wants.

Finally, Goddesses Jagannamadha Umadevi married Shiva, the replica of Dakshinamurthy after performing Vigneswara Virata Pooja formally
