Sri Ramachandramoorthy installed Sri Ramandhar(Shiva Linga) in order to get rid of Brahmahathya dhosha which he has incurred by killing Ravana. He meditated in the name of Ganga Bhavani and chiseled the ground with his bow (kodhandam) to invoke the Ganges to anoint Ramalingam.
Gangadevi felt very grateful to Sri Rama and thanked him as he had given the chance for her to anoint Sri Ramanadhar(Shiva Linga). The above theertha is named as “Kodi theertha” by Sri Rama- the avatar of Mahavishnu because it is used to anoint Lord Ramanadhar at all times.
BENEFITS OF KODI THEERTHA:
- It is believed that one who takes bath in this holy theertha, is blessed with the combined auspiciousness that one would get by offering food (Anna dhaanam), Drinking water, Cow (ko Dhaanam) and Education (Vidhya dhanam).
- One who performs pooja with this theertha filled in Copper kalas are blessed with wealth & prosperity. In addition to that, Sri Rama had given the boon that ashtalaksmi will always be present in the house which contains kodi theertha.
In addition to that, Sri Ramanadhar also gave the boon as the positive presence of ashtalakshmi will stay forever in the house of those who have this Kodi theertha.
HISTORY OF ELIMINATION OF LORD KRISHNA’S DHOSHA BY KODI THEERTHA:
To safeguard maharishis and the public from Kamsa’s evil activities, Sri Krishna – the avatar of Mahavishnu was born to kill Kamsa. Sri Krishna got rid of the dhosha which was caused by killing his own uncle by taking holy bath in Kodi theertha in Gandamadanaparvatham(Rameshwaram) as per the advise of Sri Naradha.
