Glory of Rama Theertha

After doing Lord Shivlinga pradishta and before returning to Ayodhya, Sri Ramachandra Murthy decided to create a theertha in his name in Gandamadhanam(Rameshwaram) that would be remembered till this world exists. Thus created this (Rama Theertha) beautiful pond in Rameshwaram.

HISTORY OF YUDHISHTRA

In order to defeat Dronacharya in Mahabharata war, Lord Krishna insisted Yudhisthra and made him to say that “the elephant named Aswathaman was killed”. Lord Krishna started blowing the conch, due to the sound of the conch Drona heard that his son Aswathaman was killed. Unable to withstand the pain of losing his son he decided to kill himself. He killed himself while meditating and his soul reached heaven. After his death, Drishtadyamnan thought that Drona was still alive and cut his head off with his weapon.

At the end of the 18th day of the war, all the great rishis had decided to make Yudhisthira as the king. At that time, a heavenly voice from the sky said,” Yudhisthira, You are the reason for Drona’s murder, who had been our teacher/guru all these years. So, you are engulfed with a great sin, due to which you have lost the right to be a king. Once you are relieved from this sin, you can be a king” After saying this, the voice disappeared.

Yudhisthira regretted for the mistake and consulted Maharishi Vyasar for remedies to get rid of the sin.

Vyasar said:

“Listen Yudhishthira , go to Gandamadanaparvam (Rameshwaram) and take ritual bath in the Rama theertha and worship Sri Ramanathar. So that you will be relieved from the sin”.

According to the advice given by Vyasar, he took ritual bath in the Rama theertha and was freed from all the sins by gaining Sri Ramanathar’s blessings. He then went to his own country and got crowned as the king and ruled his country.
