Lord Rama and Matha Seethadevi were traveling in the middle of the sea after defeating the king of Lanka, Ravana. At that time, Sitadevi felt unbearable thirst and requested Rama to quench her thirst. So, Rama took one of his arrows and shot it to the ground. He told Sita that good tasty water will flow out of the spot from the place where the shooted arrow lands. Then, Sita followed that arrow and quenched her thirst by drinking the pure water and also offered this water to all Vanara groups.

Lord Rama gave boon to everyone that takes bathe in this theertha would achieve all their demands and desires.
